The timber industry, along with its various professionals, is often considered "traditional," meaning the tools are simple but effective, shared by operators who are well-versed in their use. However, this tradition brings a certain reluctance toward change and technology.
Our dual solution
With our digital meter (for boards) and digital caliper (for logs), we can digitize and speed up not just timber measurement, but the entire follow-up management of information. The transfer of data on paper or to a PC is completely replaced.
However, we know there's still a lot of skepticism around these "new" tools. That’s why we’ve listed several obstacles that may initially seem like challenges but are, as you’ll see, not obstacles at all!
Overcoming obstacles
Skepticism towards new tools should be overcome for several important reasons, some of which we’ve highlighted here:
1.Technological Impact on the Operator
With Cubatore, the operator uses a meter for boards and a caliper for logs, just like traditional measurement. At Infometrics, we know the sector well because we were "born and raised" in it! We understand what it means to work with wood in a sawmill: noise, sawdust, heat, cold, gloves, planks arriving from all directions—none of these elements are obstacles to our work.
2. Noise
In production, noise is a constant. That's why our app has highly visible screens, comparable in simplicity to the manual paper lists. Operators can see what they're doing in real-time on simple screens with large text.
3. Sawdust
It's impossible to avoid! Our meter is a regular tape measure with a "magic button." Even if sawdust covers it every day, it will continue to work like the old manual meter used before Cubatore.
4. Temperature Fluctuations
Whether in extreme heat or cold, Cubatore operates seamlessly from -25°C to +45°C.
5. Gloves
Since gloves are almost always worn, our measuring button is designed to be pressed even while wearing PPE. It has a large form and a firm click. Similarly, within the app, everything is easy to select (about 1cm x 1cm) with plenty of spacing between functions.
6. Boards Coming from All Directions
In both sawmills and warehouses, this is a constant. But with Cubatore, you can eliminate 50% of the operations compared to paper-based methods. You only need to measure without writing, giving you twice the time.
7. Knots, Bark, Splits, Allowances
These elements are always present. We believe that measurement is a crucial task for those working with timber, and it cannot be fully automated. An experienced human is needed to determine which part of each plank can be sold or used. Knots, sapwood, splits, and bark need allowances, and for us, allowances are done the way you've always done them.
